Can clay, as a material, play a role in the fostering of queer space to encourage engagement and community building?
Clay can offer a unique tactile experience shaped by the intuitive and calming nature of the material. This project explores the above question through the facilitation of workshops where ceramic making acts as a conduit for conversations to emerge, connections to be formed and queer spaces to be created.
For queer individuals, engagement with queer communities is necessary to allow for development of identity, authenticity, and a sense of belonging and understanding. Drawing from queer theory, particularly studies on the fostering of queer space, and the materiality of clay, this project offers new ways of thinking about ceramic practices within the realm of queer art practices and queer community outreach.
